Stampin' with the Dragon - TAG challenge -May 24th 2013

 Hello and welcome to my scrapbook and fast becoming DIGI blog.  I am a self taught Photoshop user and  today I am  combining the fabulous image from  Dragons Lair Designs with my newly accquired skills. The Stampin' with the Dragon  challenge blog is where we post our DT projects and where you should sublit your entries to our competitions.

My post today is the DT piece for the new challenge - TAG - and this challenge starts today over on the challenge blog.

 My project is based on the 'Bedtime Girl' digital image available from Dragons Lair Designs   and I am calling this a mixed media project simply because I had to revert back to traditional paper and adhesive to complete the task.

I used my photoshop paint tool to colour the image, adding hightlights and shadows where I thought they would fit. Using similiar techniques I use with my alcohol pens ans markers, I managed to create the shine on the hair and ribbon to reasonable effect.  I also graduated the colour on the bear to try to give some depth to the shape.

This is when my PC decided it had enough and I to revert to some traditional card-making to complete the project.

 I printed the coloured image onto cardstock and used some newly purchased Reeves pastel chalks to colour the background. A Ranger Alterations edging die shaped the base of the tag and a negative die cut with the same die on coloured paper added the contrast to the edge. Three strips of polka-dot paper in blue, green and pink with stick on buttons formed the simple embellishment on the purple cardbase which I had previously stamped a floral motif. The sentiment comes from a Goodie Bag from Do-Crafts and mounted onto a scalloped circle using a Nellie Snellen die. The card was finished with some thin satin and organza ribbons in colours similar to the ones used in the project.

I am pleased with this result. PC is on the mend, but will require another trips and no doubt expensive trip to the menders and I hope it is back  with me in time to have another go with this image in a completely DIGITAL project.

Stampin' with the Dragon - Flowers for Mum Challenge.

I am ringing the changes  from my usual scrapbook pages with a digital card front to demonstrate the versatility of digital background and stamps when used with a software that allows you to digitally 'paint'.

My project for the Flowers for Mum challenge uses the  Fairy Garden digital stamp and my Photoshop painting facility.

 I set up a background with the base colour that worked with the digital papers from the Spring Fever digital kit.  I also chose to make some clipping masks to create ribbon tags that helped to compliment the digi stamp and not overwhelm it.  Using the same  colour palette as the papers  I worked on getting the fairy image finished first and coloured the flowers butterflies and grasses in order. To get the effect of a bent wing, I shaded the inside of  the wing (close to the body) a darker colour and graduated / blended lighter shades of the same colour as I 'painted' toward the outer part of the wing. I find if you add a hint of a darker tone to the tips of the wing it gives the illusion of bending away .  I use this technique a lot  with flowers and leaves.  I am specially pleased with the finished image. I also added lighter shades to arms and legs to create depth and curves.  The digital card front was finished with matching ribbon and embellishments fro the same digital kit. Again I find if you use elements from the same kit, the palette works  much better than sometimes  trying to mix and match.


I hope this inspires you to have a go either with digital painting or as I started with watercolour makers then Copics and now digital brushes.  The technique is all the same just different mediums .

Hello Sunshine - Lucie

Hello and welcome to my scrapbooking blog.

My post today is a digital  scrap-page of a photo of the lovely Lucie using the Boho-Chic digital kit.

I used the pink hair-decoration as my inspiration for the colour palette.The denim swatch  helps pop the photo out from the background and the bright colours of the flowers help to frame the photo. I need to check that all the digital elements used come from the same designer ( sometimes I mix and match) and I will add the list later when I update the post.

Happy Anniversary to my Wonderful In-laws.

Hello and welcome to my scrapbooking blog.

Today is my DT Thursday for the Stamping Dragon Facebook group. 

My post today is layout created to celebrate my in-laws wedding anniversary ...62 years married on the 30th April. Don't they look happy!

 Eddie and Jane also look forward to celebrating 90th birthdays this year too!

I used the Spring Fever digital kit to create this layout using the colour range to make the oval frame to tie in with the paper. The floral garland was made by arranging the flowers in the corner and creating an inverted duplicate for the opposite side of the layout.
